Since the release of the first vehicles, the VIN code AUDI changed several times. At first it consisted of nine symbols, since August 1980, one more digit was added. At that time, it was quite simple to decipher VIN Audi: the first and second digits denote the model of the car, the following symbols indicate the year of manufacture, the manufacturer and the serial number. The model range of cars, released in 1981, already had a 17-digit VIN-code in accordance with ISO standards.

Where to look for the VIN code on an AUDI

The AUDI VIN can be located in different places on the vehicle depending on the model. Let's look at common VIN locations:

- at the base of the windshield on the driver's side;

- under the hood on the partition between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment;

- on the shock absorber cup of the car;

- a duplicate plate on the bottom of the luggage compartment or in the spare wheel well;

- on the inside of the fender

Audi's VIN has two main types - for the European and American markets. In the VIN number for the European market there is no full compliance with the standard and positions 4-6 are filled with letters ZZZ . In cars for the American market in these positions are encoded data on the model line, engine type and installed passive safety systems.
